High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Wollumbin High School, we support High Potential and Gifted students through small class sizes, personalised learning, and rich, differentiated experiences. Teachers use flexible grouping, individual goal-setting, and targeted feedback to extend students at their point of need.

Students have access to challenge tasks, accelerated content, student-led inquiry, and real-world projects, while creativity and problem-solving are nurtured through design thinking, cross-curricular learning, and authentic performance opportunities.

Our approach balances high expectations with wellbeing, ensuring students are challenged, engaged, and supported to reach their potential and thrive.

Across our school
At Wollumbin High School, we champion excellence and provide students with opportunities to extend their academic, leadership, and sporting potential. Students can engage in HSC Science extension, our Mathematics Homework Club before and after school, and individualised music lessons in our new facilities. They can also participate in the Aurora program, specialised sports pathways, debating and public speaking, and take on leadership roles through House programs and Student Parliament, ensuring every student has the chance to develop their strengths and thrive.
Across NSW

At Wollumbin High School, students benefit from a broad range of enrichment and extension opportunities, including participation in Tweed 5 High Schools programs and competitions, VET and WorldSkills challenges, and public speaking events.

Our students are supported to engage in state sporting events and competitions, access a rich pathways program, and connect with local universities and TAFE through pre-university courses and tasters, preparing them for life beyond school. These opportunities expand horizons, develop skills, and help students thrive in a variety of contexts
