Religion and ethics

SRE organisation at Wollumbin High School

On enrolment parents/carers are given a SRE participation letter to complete. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to school administration office, in writing.

At Wollumbin High School, SRE is delivered to students with parental permission on Thursdays. Students in Year 7 will receive SRE one week, followed by Year 8 the next week. This arrangement follows throughout the year. SRE lessons are for one period. This means each student with permission will attend SRE one period each fortnight. The period chosen for SRE changes for each fortnight.

The following SRE classes are offered at Wollumbin High School:
Christian SRE is provided by SRE teachers from different Christian denominations and churches. The approved providers in this combined arrangement are Baptist Union NSW, Uniting Church NSW, Anglican Diocese of Grafton, Conxions Church - The International Network of Churches, Presbyterian Church NSW and Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

All Christian SRE teachers are authorised and trained by an approved provider.

SRE teacher is authorised by the Baptist Union NSW.

The Christian SRE curriculum is THINK FAITH and is authorised by Anglican Diocese of Sydney. The curriculum is based on Good News about Jesus Christ and learning the key elements of our Christian life and culture.

Please find the link here to the scope and sequence.

Christian SRE engages students in conversations as they question life, explore values and discover faith.

During the time SRE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space. They will participate in meaningful educational activities which could include reading, private study, physical activities or completing homework. No new concepts will be taught to students not attending SRE.

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
